De-Mystify the many different types of alabama hunting season

The larger objective lens you have the more light you will be able to gather into the scope. If it is getting dark the crosshairs inside a larger objective lens will be visible longer. It also is bigger so it raises the scope up above the barrel higher so you will need higher rings and a higher cheek piece. Which in turn gives you a higher silhouette. But again the difference is minuet. The larger the lens the more field of view you have as well as the lower power the larger field of view.. You will also have to decide between an angled or a straight eyepieced body. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Straight-thru scopes will allow you to more quickly locate game, especially if it's on the move. They may also work a little better on a window mount. Angled scopes have their own advantages. They will allow you to use a lower, lighter tripod and will be more accomodating if you're sharing the scope with others. A lower mounted height will be more stable and less susceptible to wind vibration. You may even be able to use angled scopes without a tripod simply resting on a pack if you're extremely weight concious. Personally, I find the angled bodies a bit more comfortable to view through. . Not all hunters understand how to properly use their optics. Too often, hunters will only use their binoculars to identify something they've already spotted with their eyes. This is a mistake ! If you can continously use your binos to search and look and peer through undergrowth, you'll be amazed how often you'll see something you would have missed otherwise. You'll learn to see a leg, a tip of an antler or colors that belong to an animal. You'll find that movement almost always tips you off to game. .

Lower magnifications of 7x or 8x work equally well in all terrain and in a wide variety of situations. The fields of view are wider and images tend to be brighter. Wider fields of view make it easier to follow fast moving birds in thick woodland environments, scan for animals from a distance, and to follow action in sporting events or at the theatre. Low magnification in compact binoculars provides a much steadier view. . If you use a variable power scope, keep it set at low magnification for maximum field of view when you are out hunting. If you leave your scope at high power and jump a deer at close range, it is pretty frustrating to see only a patch of hide when you snap your rifle to your shoulder, and have no idea what part of the deer you are looking at. This has happened many times to many hunters. I always leave my variable power scopes on low power until I actually need to turn the magnification up to make a shot.. There are several generations of device, each using slightly different principles to achieve the same result (with differing degrees of success). Some are more technologically advanced than others, and consequently come with different price tags attached to them..

While the above is reasonably accurate, it is necessarily a slight simplification of the processes involved. The most important point to remember is that the most common devices merely amplify the existing light. Consequently, the image is slightly blurry and low resolution, but perfectly adequate for many low level hunting applications.. This means that a 2.5x fixed power scope really only requires a 12.5mm clear aperture. A 2.5x scope with a straight tube and a 20mm objective (which is common for that power) actually has an 8mm exit pupil.. For many years I was a camera store manager and professional photographer. Later I became a photography teacher. In the course of pursuing those careers, and because I was interested, I came to have a better than average understanding of optics and lens systems.. If you have moderate to severe astigmatism, you will need to wear glasses for serious observing. If your eye correction is for near or far sightedness, then the binocular's focusing travel will usually accommodate for these conditions and you won't need to wear your eyeglasses. Out in the field you will generally use the naked eye to locate birds before looking through your binoculars and, while not optically necessary to keep the glasses on, it is much easier to do so. Constantly taking your glasses on and off is not only frustrating, but it will slow you down when tracking fast moving birds. . Giant binoculars are dedicated to astronomy and offer larger apertures and objectives for increased brightness and magnification of night-sky objects. Whereas a common spec for general-purpose binoculars might be 7x50 or 10x50, for giant binoculars it might be 20x80 or 25x100. Due to their increased size and weight, a heavy-duty tripod or other mount is a must for these instruments.. For many years, European manufacturers have claimed that they own the market for optical spotting scopes. The Burris Black Diamond scope puts that argument to rest by blowing away all the competition. Many American companies are producing models that far surpass their foreign counterparts..

Refractors are the most common form of the telescope - a long, thin tube where light passes in a straight line from the front objective lens directly to the eyepiece at the opposite end of the tube.. Whichever telescope you pick, choose one that will meet your precise needs and hobbies. The planets, the Moon, and close stars require high power, good contrast, and sharp resolution, and if these are the objects of your attention, a refractor or reflector is probably the best bet. While very faint objects like galaxies and nebulae need a huge aperture and you should invest in a big reflector telescope to view these. And if you haven't specialized, an all-purpose midrange telescope should serve best, for example a 6" or 8" reflector or an 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain. . You and your telescope.

Finally, you should consider other needs for your binoculars. If you are taking your binoculars to the game or the opera, they should be compact. If you are taking your binocular out on the high seas, you will want fully waterproof binoculars that can withstand salty spray. If you are taking your binoculars out on a bird-watching expedition through the woods, you will want them to be light. Consider what will be comfortable for you. You are, ultimately, the person who will be using these binoculars, so you need to make sure they are comfortable for your eyes and in your hands.. The size of the objective lens will determine how much light it can obtain for effective viewing. The higher the number, the larger the lens; in effect allowing more light to pass through thereby projecting a brighter image and viewing experience.. The next thing you must consider when buying binoculars is magnification and field of view. Magnification is the degree to which the image is enlarged. This means that the more magnification, the farther away the objects you can see. Field of view is the width of the image that you are seeing..

Without going into too much scientific detail, the basic principle of night vision devices is that incoming photons strike a photoelectric plate. A photoelectric plate is one which reacts to being struck by photons by releasing a number of charged particles, electrons, for each photon that strikes it.. Plus, always remember that usability is equally important in spotting scopes. A good birding scope should live up to the elements but it shouldn't be too heavy to carry. Furthermore, it should be easy to focus and usable on a car window mount, for those times when you dare not step out of the vehicle and disturb the natural world. Built-in, slide-out sunshades and easy-to-use lens caps will also help a lot. Last but not least, a good scope needs a good tripod to help you keep steady.. The human eye loses its ability to adapt to dim light as it ages, so a middle-aged person's maximum pupil size is typically down to around 5mm. Elderly eyes are often limited to about a 4mm maximum pupil diameter. So as we age, the exit pupil size we need decreases.. Roof-prisms cost more to manufacture and tend to be more expensive than porros, but roof prism types are not necessarily better than porro prism types.. Light transmission. Choosing the Right Optical Spotting Scopes .

THREE-STAR-PLUS. Leupold introduced their ultra-deluxe LPS line, which also features one-piece 30mm tubes, oversize objective lenses, special lens coatings, 4" constant eye relief, and European fast focusing (among other things) specifically to compete with the high end European scopes. It will be interesting to see how the Oregon scope maker fares in such expensive company. So far they seem to be more than holding their own.. · Excellent for faint deep sky objects such as remote galaxies, nebulae and star clusters because of their larger apertures for light gathering..

Some people just fall in love with a product and continue to purchase the same thing every time. While, loyalty to a manufacturer is a great way to help drive product research and advancement, you should rethink your strategy. Companies often come out with new and improved versions of their original releases. Migrating to the latest offering allows you to experience a wider range of utilities.. Riflescopes are available in almost any configuration of size and power imaginable. The most common scope by far is the 3x-9x with a one-inch tube, with varying sizes of objective (front) lenses. Some are available with an adjustable objective (AO) option, which can help correct for parallax at various ranges. But we're not going to deal with all of the technical aspects of scopes in this article - just the basics.. A spotting scope is a sure way to open new birding opportunities for you. Whether you observe in the great wide open or locally at your city park, a spotting scope will add a new dimension to your birding. If you anticipate any field use of the scope, investing in a waterproof scope would save you a lot of hassle. Hardcore birders also appreciate strong construction and preferably nitrogen filled optics so they won't fog up..

.22 scopes are designed to be parallax free at a shorter distance (usually 75 yards) than scopes designed for centerfire rifles, since they will be used for small targets at comparatively short range, instead of large targets at long range. A good .22 scope does need to have accurate internal adjustments and high quality optics.. After decades of reading the popular gun and outdoor magazines, I have become convinced that most gun writers have little real knowledge about optics, although they may know just enough to impress most of their readers. As you will read below, it is much easier for scope companies to sell magnification, which most consumers already understand, than to educate potential customers about the other, often more important, attributes of telescopic sights.. What is the primary purpose of using the binoculars ? . · Best near focus capability of any type telescope. Several companies have also copied the Weaver bases and rings, and their rings and bases should interchange with Weaver bases and rings. The Tasco supplied rings I have used on pistol sights, for instance, mate perfectly to Weaver bases.. There are two basic types of binoculars: Porro prism and roof prism. You can tell them apart by the shape. Porro-prism: These have an angled design. When standing on their barrels they appear to form an M shape..
