Learn everything you need to know about the basics of the Rifle Scope

There is some basic knowledge you need to know about a rifle scope before purchasing one. Once you know the general things you can search through catalogs, web sites, and stores to find the right rifle scope for your specific uses and budget. One of the most important pieces of information needed before buying a rifle scope is the magnification and field of view that will best suit your activity.

The most common rifle scope is a 4X32 which indicates that the scope magnifies an object four times the normal size and the 32 tells you the lens diameter in millimeters. For most rifle scopes you will find that as the lens diameter gets wider, more light will be let into the field of view. Also know that generally, a rifle scope with a larger magnification will have a smaller field of view.

You have two choice of power with rifle scopes and the one you choose will, as with all other features, depend on your intended use. A fixed power rifle scope has the magnification power set by the manufacturer. This feature is popular for common hunters. The other choice is a variable power rifle scope which has a wide range of uses because they are capable of magnifying objects from 2 to 25 times the regular size. Variable power scopes also have an adjustable field of view and light entry.
